Homework Guidelines
Math- I have decided to complete the majority of the students’ homework in class. I've come to notice in past years that students have had questions, multiple absences, and are lacking the motivation to complete the work at home. This will give us the opportunity to ensure they understand the concept and complete the day’s lesson. Students who don't complete our in-class assignments will be expected to finish them at home and turn them in immediately the following morning. If you ever have questions please feel free to contact me by email. I will do my best to respond as quickly as possible.
Math Fact Practice - will only be given as homework for students that need additional practice to ensure mastery.
Science - The students will be given time in class to work on investigations, hands on experiments, record sheets and activity learning sheets. Absent students will be asked to come in during lunch or given the opportunity to take them home to complete.
Fifth Grade Guidelines - Homework is monitored and will be reflected on the report card. It is assessed using 1 or 2 – needs improvement (7+ missing days of homework), 3 – satisfactory (4-6 missing days), and 4 – outstanding (0-2 missing days). Although it is not given an academic letter grade, it can affect whether a child receives Honor Roll or Principal’s Award. As per school policy, students who receive an N on their report card in any area are not eligible for either award. Each assignment does not count as one day. For example, if a student forgets his Spelling and Math on Monday, s/he is only penalized for 1 day, not two individual assignments.
*Be sure to check your child's agenda daily for updated announcements and homework.
*Grade Checks will take place every Tuesday Morning - at this time student agendas will be checked. Be sure that your child has reviewed their grades the Monday night before hand along with having their agendas completed and signed by you. This will notify me that we are all aware of the grades and if concerns arise we can deal with them promptly.
